Welcome to PostLeft.com! My name is Cindy Oyer, and my screen name is Gwynedd.

My broad interests include history, politics, culture, religion and media criticism. I’ve studied each of these at some point in my life, but consider myself an expert at none. I’ve worked mostly in technical trades, such as computer support. Ideologically, I am a liberal… proudly and unapologetically… although I often do not vote or support a straight Democratic ticket. I haven’t been politically active since I was very young, having been mired in frequent depression and sometimes debilitating cynicism. This election cycle has me “fired up” for the first time in quite a few years. While my writing style is better suited to academia than the Internet, I’m new to this type of forum, and I like to think I can still learn new skills!

I enjoy reading and thinking about current events and trends, speculating on possible solutions to problems and challenges for effective governance. Here at PostLeft.com, I would like to to explore and encourage discussion of those current issues and events that catch my eye. Many thousands of blogs are devoted to such topics. But, I’m hoping to find a niche for interesting chat and topics, not limited by to those bouncing around in the echo chamber of the blogosphere. Further, I’m committed to providing useful links to original sources and useful additional information, which are often lacking is other sites I visit.

I hope the nebulous, ill-defined blog I envision is possible. As with most things new, this is an experiment, and one which I expect will evolve over time in various ways. In these early days, I’m experimenting with concepts, topics and style. I’m trying to brush up long-rusty writing skills and to figure out how my talents and thoughts might be of value in this medium. I’m more concerned to see where these explorations lead than to work on developing a large readership, for now.

But you, the reader, the potential commenter and writer, will always be key to whether or not this blog succeeds at becoming useful in the long run, so I’ll close with a plea. If you’re interested in reading or participating in constructive (or not?) dialogue, please come back… whether tomorrow or next week or next month. Bring a friend (or send an enemy :-)). Thanks for stopping by!
